According to ABC News, the gold Ford Escape SUV belonging to missing Tweed Shire woman Yvonne Whear has been recovered from the Rous River near Dulguigan, less than 10 kilometres from her home at Dungay. Ms Whear, 73, has been missing since February and was not found in the vehicle.

Ms Whear was last seen on Thursday, February 19, after attending an art class at TAFE. CCTV recorded her car travelling along Queensland Road towards her farm near Murwillumbah that afternoon. She was also seen at the Shell service station on Tweed Valley Way at Murwillumbah at about 3:15pm.

Phone records showed she watched videos and checked her voicemail shortly before 5pm, her last known activity. The boots and hat she wore in service-station CCTV footage were found at her Dungay house.

The vehicle was found around three weeks before it was recovered on Saturday, September 12. An independent search organisation located it using a fish finder device after Ms Whear’s family identified the river stretch as an area of interest. Tweed Byron police and the Marine Area Command’s Diving Unit searched the site, established a crime scene and carried out a forensic examination after the car was removed from the water.

Several personal belongings believed to be Ms Whear’s were recovered, and the vehicle was taken for further mechanical examination. Her daughter, Gillian Hallac, said the discovery heightened the family’s fears and urged people in Murwillumbah and surrounding areas to provide any information about her mother’s disappearance or anyone who may have wanted to harm her.
