According to Cnbc, a majority of respondents to its Fed Survey expect at least two interest-rate hikes over the next year, a sharp shift from the prior month.

Of the 29 economists, fund managers and strategists surveyed, 86% expect a rate increase, while 55% anticipate more than one and one-third predict three or more. A month earlier, 46% expected a hike.

Respondents cited higher oil prices, inflation that failed to cool and a belief that price pressures have expanded beyond energy. Roughly three-quarters said inflation is broader than energy costs. Their average CPI forecast rose to nearly 3.5% for this year and 2.85% for 2027.

Most respondents expect the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed for at least another month and oil prices to stay elevated for more than six months. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to decide on rates Wednesday, following its two-day meeting.

Despite expectations for tighter policy, the growth outlook changed little. Respondents put recession odds over the next 12 months at an average 29%, projected GDP growth of about 2.25% this year and next, and expected unemployment to remain near 4.25%.
