Arabic version: التحالف يقول إنه اعترض صاروخاً حوثياً قرب الحدود السعودية
According to Al Jazeera, the Saudi-led coalition said its air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile targeting Saudi Arabia’s southern region as fighting continued across several fronts in Yemen. Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki made the statement on Monday.
Al-Maliki had earlier said that defences destroyed a drone launched towards the southern region on Sunday evening. Saudi Civil Defence later issued, then lifted, alerts over “potential danger” in Abha and the provinces of Khamis Mushait, Taif and Najran. The authority also warned residents not to film, publish or share information related to missile and drone attacks.
In Yemen, a Houthi-affiliated media outlet reported that seven people were wounded in Saudi-led coalition air strikes on Hodeidah governorate along the Red Sea coast. It said four people were hurt at Ras Isa port dock and three at an oil company site in Bajil district. The coalition did not comment on those reports.
Government forces are continuing a campaign to retake positions from the Iran-aligned Houthis in the northern governorate of al-Jawf. Yemeni army spokesman Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili said forces carried out 1,272 targeting operations over 24 hours against Houthi fighters, fortifications and weapons supplies. He said operations were also under way in neighbouring Marib and al-Bayda, and claimed roughly 500 Houthi fighters were killed. Al Jazeera could not independently verify the claims.
Authorities in Taiz, where the Houthis continue a siege, have warned of worsening humanitarian conditions. Governor Nabil Shamsan said 120 health centres had stopped operating and 66 more were close to closing after supply routes were cut in early October. A committee member said at least 23 trucks were damaged or overturned over two weeks while attempting alternative routes into the city.
