Coco Gauff is through to her first Wimbledon semi-final after battling to a comeback victory over Jessica Pegula. The two-time Grand Slam singles champion had never previously gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon and suffered a first-round exit last year, triumphing with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 against the world number four.

According to BBC News, Gauff, the seventh seed, struggled initially, recording four double faults and 17 unforced errors in the opening set. However, she showcased her fighting spirit, becoming the first woman in 30 years to reach the singles semi-finals at all four Grand Slams with four three-set victories.

Gauff is set to face Karolina Muchova in the semi-finals after Muchova defeated Naomi Osaka with a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Muchova, the 10th seed, also reached her first Wimbledon semi-final, having lost at this stage in 2019 and 2021.

In her match against Pegula, Gauff capitalized on a poor game from her opponent, breaking to love and gaining momentum to level the match. The final set saw Gauff raise her level at crucial moments, ultimately celebrating victory on Pegula’s serve with her first match point. Pegula’s loss extends her wait for a first Grand Slam singles title.

Muchova’s victory over Osaka ended the latter’s impressive run at this year’s championships, where she had previously stunned world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The match between Muchova and Osaka featured a competitive exchange, with Muchova making fewer unforced errors and landing 24 winners to secure her spot in the semi-finals.
