According to BBC News, Declan’s father, Carl, expressed the family’s deep sorrow, stating that his son was “very much loved by his friends and family, and will be missed dearly by many.” He described Declan as a funny and outgoing young man with a passion for fishing and football.

Emergency services responded to reports of a boy struggling in the water around 14:30 BST on Sunday. In light of this tragedy, Carl Sawyer has called on parents to educate their children about the potential hazards associated with rivers and lakes, particularly during hot weather.

Declan’s school, Priory City of Lincoln Academy, also released a statement mourning his loss, describing it as devastating. The school emphasized that Declan was a valued member of the community and that his absence would be felt profoundly by both staff and students in the days to come. Flowers have been left near the scene in memory of Declan, as the community comes together to honor his memory.
