Roza Abebwa, a 51-year-old mother of eight from Victoria, tragically lost her life in a head-on car crash in Logan, south of Brisbane, over the Easter long weekend. Family members have described her as “the light of many,” highlighting her selfless nature and ability to bring joy to those around her. According to ABC News, the collision occurred on Saturday evening when the Ford Focus hatchback she was in collided with a ute on School Road at approximately 9:00 PM.

Ms. Abebwa died at the scene of the accident, while her two-year-old daughter and 28-year-old niece, who was driving, were taken to the hospital but have since recovered from their injuries. Her son, Rashidi Edward, expressed the profound impact of her loss, stating that she was a source of comfort and strength for their family. “She was the kind of person who made you feel safe, seen, and cared for,” he remarked.

Initial police investigations suggest that the ute was driving at high speed and had crossed onto the wrong side of the road to overtake three other vehicles before the crash occurred. The four teenage occupants of the ute were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the 17-year-old driver is undergoing testing for illicit substances or alcohol.

Queensland Police Acting Inspector Peter Venz mentioned that authorities are investigating potential connections between the crash and a large-scale hooning event reported in the area on the same night. Further inquiries are underway, and no charges have been filed as of yet.
