A 13-year-old girl, who allegedly “weaponised” stolen cars to target certain community members, has been refused bail due to concerns for community safety. According to ABC News, the girl appeared in a children’s court on Monday facing 109 charges, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, theft, motor vehicle theft, and burglary.

The case gained attention after the girl allegedly attempted to hit a cyclist in Brighton, Melbourne, while driving a stolen vehicle. Following the incident, she reportedly googled the punishment for running someone over, raising alarm among law enforcement about the premeditated nature of her actions.

Detective Senior Constable Jarryd Grey revealed that the girl’s online activity included troubling content and videos. The victim of the car incident continues to suffer neck pain, dizziness, speech difficulties, and waking distressed at night, highlighting the serious impact of the girl’s alleged behavior.

Further allegations against the teenager include targeting members of the Jewish community with antisemitic remarks and aggressive driving. The prosecutor noted a concerning pattern of behavior, with the girl reportedly offending an average of 1.45 times a day over a 74-day period.

The magistrate expressed that the evidence presented indicated an overwhelming risk to the community, leading to the decision to deny bail. The girl will face the court again in 21 days for further proceedings.
