According to ABC News, Raelene Polymiadis was allegedly recorded praying for forgiveness for a “mortal sin” in a covert police listening device recording, South Australia’s Supreme Court has heard. The 65-year-old Adelaide woman is on trial charged with murdering her parents, Brenda and Lynton Anderson, using lethal doses of insulin. She has pleaded not guilty.

The court has heard that Brenda and Lynton Anderson were both 94 when they died 14 months apart, in March 2022 and May 2023 respectively. The couple were not diabetic, while Ms Polymiadis had diabetes and managed the condition with insulin.

Jurors were told the recording was made inside a car on the morning of June 23, 2023. A woman alleged to be Ms Polymiadis was heard saying, “please Lord, forgive my sins” and “What I did was a mortal sin”. The recording also included references to seeing her parents begging and wanting them to be “in your glory, Lord”.

The jury previously heard other covert recordings that prosecutors alleged were made while Ms Polymiadis drove to a police interview on June 20, 2023. In one, a voice said: “Please Lord, yes I have sinned, I have sinned twice … but I also know with your blessing, Lord, they did not want to go to a nursing home.” Prosecutors have also alleged notes found during searches of her home and car detailed what she should say to police. Defence barrister Marie Shaw KC has said the context of the alleged confession would be an issue at trial. The trial is continuing.
