According to BBC News, Coventry City have completed the club-record signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish side Nordsjaelland. The 20-year-old has agreed a long-term contract with the Premier League newcomers.

The Sky Blues are believed to have paid 27m euros (£23.1m), with a further 3m euros (£2.5m) in add-ons. Yirenkyi is Coventry’s fifth summer signing after Frank Lampard led the club back to the top flight following a 25-year absence.

Yirenkyi made his Ghana debut in May 2025 and featured at this summer’s World Cup. He scored a stoppage-time winner in the Black Stars’ group victory over Panama. He has scored two goals in 15 appearances for Ghana.

“When I spoke to the head coach about the plans and the style, it’s something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him,” Yirenkyi said. “I’m still young so I want to learn from the head coach, the other players and work really hard for the team.”

A product of the Right to Dream academy, Yirenkyi joined Nordsjaelland in 2024 and won the Danish Superliga young player of the year award last season. Primarily a midfielder, he has also played at right-back for both club and country. Danish journalist Nicklas Degn described him as an “extremely exciting player” and said his maturity was well above his age group.
