According to Cnbc, Jim Cramer warned that Wall Street could face further volatility next week, with concerns about artificial-intelligence spending still weighing on technology stocks. He said investors will confront a busy schedule of corporate earnings, the midterm elections and the monthly jobs report after a turbulent week for major indexes.
The Nasdaq Composite rose 2.3% through Wednesday before falling 2.9% Friday, leaving it down 2% for the week. The S&P 500 gained 1.6% through Wednesday, then dropped 1.8% Friday to finish down 0.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.5% through Wednesday before slipping 1.1% Friday, ending down 0.9%. Cramer said investors should not assume the worst has passed for technology shares and advised against trying to call a bottom in the Nasdaq.
Apple is set to report after Monday’s close. Cramer said he remains bullish on the company, though its valuation of almost 40 times earnings leaves little room for disappointment. He also expects encouraging results from Palantir, citing customer feedback on its AI software. On Tuesday, he will watch whether changes in congressional control after the midterm elections could threaten planned data-center projects. AMD’s earnings are also due Tuesday, and Cramer expects the chipmaker to post better numbers than Intel. Pfizer and Amgen are scheduled to report as well.
Wednesday’s reports include CVS Health and McDonald’s. Cramer said he is intrigued by CVS Health’s healthcare position but is concerned about its pharmacy benefit management business. He wants McDonald’s results to show whether its restaurant improvement strategy is gaining traction. Kimberly-Clark reports Thursday, following its planned merger with Kenvue, while Friday’s jobs report will offer another market test. Cramer expects strong hiring with limited wage growth, which he said could ease inflation concerns and help explain relatively stable Treasury yields.
