According to ABC News, relatives of a Perth mother stabbed while visiting Tasmania say she faces a long physical and emotional recovery, while a crowdfunding campaign has been launched to support her children and recovery.

The mother of four, identified as Sarah, was at a home in Exeter near Launceston when the incident occurred. Her family asked that her surname not be published to protect the identity of her children. Sarah’s sister and brother-in-law, Coby and Adam Gore, said the family’s lives had been changed forever and that the two girls travelling with her had experienced unimaginable trauma.

Tasmania Police said Sarah’s two youngest children were at the home on Friday but did not witness the attack. Detective Inspector Stuart Greenwood said investigations indicated the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman. The couple had arrived in Tasmania from Perth the previous Wednesday, and it is understood Sarah had been in a relationship with the 42-year-old man for six months.

After the stabbing, the man crashed his sedan into a ute, killing himself instantly. The other driver, nurse and mother Elaine Gee, later died from her injuries on Sunday. Sarah’s family acknowledged the loss suffered by Ms Gee’s relatives, describing her as a beloved wife, mother, friend and dedicated nurse. A separate online fundraiser for Ms Gee’s family had exceeded $200,000.

By Wednesday afternoon, the campaign for Sarah’s children and recovery had raised more than $15,000. Tasmania Police are seeking witnesses or dashcam footage from Friday’s crash and said information can be provided anonymously. Siobhan Mackay, acting chief executive of the Women’s Legal Service Tasmania, said the service had received a surge of calls after the incident and warned that examples of extreme violence can be used by perpetrators to exert further power and control.
