According to ABC News, the Adelaide Crows will report online trolling directed at captain Jordan Dawson to SA Police and the AFL integrity unit after a social media message referenced self-harm.

The message was sent after Adelaide’s defeat to Brisbane in Saturday night’s semi-final. Dawson shared a picture of the message on his Instagram account.

Crows chief executive Tim Silvers described the conduct as “disgusting and disturbing” and said the club would support Dawson and teammate Callum Ah Chee, who was also subjected to abuse understood to be racist in nature.

“We will provide Jordan and Cal with the appropriate support, as is the case when any of our people are subjected to online attacks and abuse,” Silvers said. “We will also be reporting these latest incidents to SA Police and the AFL’s integrity unit.”

Dawson, named All-Australian vice-captain, spoke about mental health in an August speech following his brother’s death earlier this year. Silvers said such abuse was becoming more common and called for it to end, saying: “It’s simply not good enough and it has to stop.”
