According to BBC News, Spain defender Marc Cucurella has had a tattoo of World Cup-winning coach Luis de la Fuente after keeping a promise made during Spain’s successful campaign.

Cucurella helped Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final this month. The 28-year-old played every minute of Spain’s tournament and revealed the new tattoo on social media.

The design shows a portrait of De la Fuente holding the World Cup in front of a number 26. Cucurella shared pictures and video of the tattoo being completed, writing: “Promise kept.”

After the final, De la Fuente said he expected Cucurella to follow through. “I’ve already told them, ‘did you make a mistake?’” he joked in his post-match news conference. “They did, but they’ll enjoy it.”

Cucurella, who joined Real Madrid from Chelsea for £52m in June, also carried his wife’s pyjama top as a lucky charm during the World Cup. He has previously said he keeps his trademark long, curly hair so his child can easily spot him during matches.
