Victoria Police attended 160 call-outs related to family violence in the Dandenong area in a single week last month. Officers made 95 arrests and charged 58 individuals with offences. The police report highlights a concerning trend, with family violence offences increasing by more than 3 percent compared to the previous year.

Among the notable incidents, a 36-year-old man allegedly strangled and threatened to kill his former partner with a hammer and attempted to set their property on fire. He faces multiple charges, including intentionally causing injury and attempted criminal damage by fire. Another case involved a 35-year-old man who allegedly used a gun to threaten and rob his former partner, leading to 35 charges against him.

According to ABC News, a 28-year-old man was also arrested for allegedly killing a family dog and breaching a family violence intervention order. All three men have been remanded in custody to face court at a later date.

In total, police detected 290 family violence offences during that week, with more than half related to breaches of intervention orders. Senior Sergeant Jason Iles of the Dandenong Family Violence Investigation Unit stated that the data reflects the unfortunate reality of rising family violence cases. He emphasized that the police are actively monitoring perpetrators to ensure victim safety.

The recent state budget included $3.5 million aimed at assisting 1,700 women facing family violence, providing support for upgrading home security measures such as stronger locks and alarms. This funding is part of ongoing efforts to address the alarming rise in family violence incidents in Victoria.
