According to ABC News, a series of dangerous storms dumped hail across communities in south-east Queensland on Monday, with warnings issued from north of Maryborough to northern New South Wales.

Footage from Maryborough on Monday night showed hail building up in chunks across a road. More than 50 millimetres of rain was recorded in 30 minutes at Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast.

Hervey Bay resident Michael told ABC 612 that his front lawn looked like it was “covered with golf balls”. He said his car was wobbling in the driveway and that he could no longer see the grass because it looked as though it had snowed.

As of 9pm, a severe thunderstorm warning remained in place for parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Darling Downs and Granite Belt. The Bureau of Meteorology forecast more extreme weather for much of south-east Queensland on Tuesday, warning that very dangerous storm cells could produce one or two brief, short-lived tornadoes. Senior forecaster Angus Hines said storms could cause significant damage, including large hail, wind damage and flash flooding.
