Arabic version: إدانة داريل يونغ بقتل ثلاثة أشخاص في بوغي
According to ABC News, Darryl Valroy Young, 63, has been found guilty of three murders and one attempted murder over a shooting at his Shannonvale Station cattle property at Bogie in north Queensland.
Married couple Mervyn and Maree Schwarz, and Maree Schwarz’s son Graham Tighe, were found shot dead at the station gate on August 4, 2022. Prosecutors said Ross Tighe, Graham Tighe’s brother, was also shot but fled in a vehicle and raised the alarm.
Young had pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, and argued he was never at the scene. The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on the murder charges after deliberating for 15 hours over three days. Jurors later delivered an 11-person majority guilty verdict on the attempted murder count.
The trial heard that Young believed his neighbours were stealing cattle and had demanded a meeting at the location of the shooting. Crown prosecutors said rifle cartridges found in Young’s bedroom matched those at the scene, while Young said the cartridges were not his and denied requesting a meeting. After the verdicts, a statement for the Schwarz and Tighe families said no verdict or sentence could return those who died or undo what Ross Tighe survived.
