Daveigh Chase, known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, passed away this month from AIDS, according to a medical examiner’s report. She died on June 16 at the age of 35 in a Los Angeles hospital.
According to BBC News, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner classified her death as “natural” but noted “chronic polysubstance use” as an additional significant condition. Chase’s manager stated that she succumbed to sepsis following a bout of meningitis.
Chase’s father revealed that she had been experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles with her boyfriend prior to her death. The actress, who also went by Daveigh Schwallier, began her career at the age of four and retired from acting full-time in 2015.
She gained recognition in Hollywood with her role as Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko and later portrayed Samara Morgan in the horror film The Ring. Her performance earned her an MTV Movie Award for best villain in 2003. Additionally, she voiced Lilo in Disney’s animated classic Lilo & Stitch, a role that won her an Annie Award for best voice acting.
Chase faced various legal challenges in her later years, including charges related to drug possession and joyriding in a stolen vehicle. Her contributions to film and television remain notable, marking her as a significant figure in early 2000s cinema.
