According to ABC News, Alex de Minaur gave Australia an early advantage in its Davis Cup tie against Poland by defeating Maks Kasnikowski 6-3, 6-0 at Brisbane’s Pat Rafter Arena.

The world number nine beat his 231st-ranked opponent in under an hour. Kasnikowski stayed competitive through the 35-minute first set, but de Minaur swept through the second set in 20 minutes.

De Minaur repeatedly urged on the packed home crowd during the match and said he had missed playing in Australia. “We play outside Australia for 10 months of the year, so we don’t really get too many chances to play back here in front of a packed crowd,” he said. “It was a great atmosphere and one that I’ve missed.”

The victory follows a difficult 2026 for the 27-year-old, who is ninth in the ATP rankings but 13th in the race for the year-end ATP finals. His next event after the Davis Cup is the Laver Cup in London, where he will lead Team World against Europe.

James Duckworth is scheduled to face Poland’s number one, Kamil Majchrzak, in the second singles rubber.
