Arabic version: دي مينور يتجاوز هاليس ويبلغ ربع نهائي بكين
According to ABC News, Alex de Minaur fought back from a set down and saved himself from defeat against French qualifier Quentin Halys to reach the China Open quarterfinal in Beijing.
The world number 10 lost the opening set 6-3 to Halys, ranked 50th, then faced a 5-3 deficit in the second set as his opponent served for the match. De Minaur broke back and won the tie-break 7-5 to force a deciding set.
The Australian secured another late break at 5-5 in the third set before completing a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory in 2 hours and 47 minutes. The result levelled the pair’s head-to-head record at 2-2 and sent de Minaur into his second consecutive China Open quarterfinal.
De Minaur will next face Andrey Rublev, the world number 20 and a former top-10 player. Rublev advanced after beating fellow Russian Roman Safiullin 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. De Minaur reached the semifinals of the ATP 500 event last year before losing to then world number 1 Jannik Sinner.
