Arabic version: دي مينور يقود أستراليا أمام بولندا
According to ABC News, Alex de Minaur will lead Australia in its Davis Cup World Group tie against Poland at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane on September 19 and 20. The tie comes days after de Minaur’s US Open run at Flushing Meadows.
Australia is ranked number eight in the Davis Cup and has won the competition 28 times. The team must defeat Poland to advance to the Davis Cup qualifiers next year. The remainder of Australia’s team will be named soon.
“There is nothing quite like representing the green and gold and to do it at home makes it even more special,” de Minaur said in a Tennis Australia statement. “We know what’s at stake against Poland and we will be going out there with one goal – to get the win and put ourselves back into the qualifiers.”
Australian coach Lleyton Hewitt said having de Minaur lead the team in Brisbane was “a huge boost”, citing his Davis Cup performances and commitment to representing Australia. Hewitt said Poland would provide a tough tie, while playing at home gave Australia a great opportunity.
The Brisbane meeting will be the second Davis Cup contest between Australia and Poland. Australia won their previous encounter 4-1 in Warsaw in 2013.
