Canterbury-Bankstown’s first International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination event will be held at the Bryan Brown Theatre this month.
On Tuesday 21 March, members of the community, Police and local services will come together to help eliminate racial discrimination.
Attendees will receive advice, information and support on what to do if they witness or experience racial discrimination
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said events like these are so important because they celebrate one of our greatest strengths – our diversity.
“It’s also about showing respect, acknowledging and appreciating everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances,” Mayor Asfour said.
“Here in Canterbury-Bankstown, we have a vibrant, rich culture with more than 129 nationalities represented and around 200 languages spoken. What makes us so special as a community, is how we embrace the diverse cultures and customs of people who live here.”
The event will include a panel discussion with Police, Legal Aid, Kensington Community Legal Centre, One Door Mental Health and Aunty Jennifer.
There will be also a pledge wall, where attendees can write their own pledges of how they will stand up against racism or support someone experiencing racism.
