Students in Sydney’s South West can look forward to learning from new state-of-the-art facilities, with designs revealed for improvements to Austral Public School and Leppington Public School in Sydney’s south west.
Planned upgrades at both schools will see the construction of fit-for-purpose classrooms, new support learning classrooms, and an upgrade and refurbishment of administration facilities and library to support the area’s growing student population.
Leppington Public School will also receive a new hall, canteen and covered outdoor learning area (COLA).
As part of the NSW Labor Government’s historic $769 million commitment to build 100 public preschools co-located with public schools, Leppington Public School will also receive a new public preschool.
Upgrades to these schools are vital, with the number of families in Austral growing from 682 to 1,799 from 2016 to 2021, and the number of families in Leppington growing from 888 to 2,564 over the same period.
Information sessions were held for the communities from Leppington Public School and Austral Public School this week, with families learning about the upgrades, and viewing the concept designs.
The upgrades are part of the NSW Government’s comprehensive plan to rebuild public education in NSW, which includes a $3.5 billion investment over four years for 24 new and 51 upgraded primary and high schools in Western Sydney, and the largest ever investment in public preschools in the state’s history.
These targeted investments in growing communities will ensure all NSW families will be able to access high quality educations, regardless of their postcode.
Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“I am thrilled to see new designs showing the planned upgrades at Austral Public School and Leppington Public School.
“Expanding and upgrading these primary schools will give more children access to high quality learning at their local school, and will also mean more students can flourish in contemporary facilities.”
Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty said:
“It is fantastic to see the NSW Government’s investment in education in Sydney’s southwest.
“I encourage the community to see the designs and learn how these school upgrades will affect them.
“I look forward to sharing more updates on these projects as they progress.”
