According to ABC News, Australia’s Diamonds have expressed disappointment that their opening Commonwealth Games netball matches in Glasgow were available live only on Channel Seven’s 7Plus streaming service, rather than on the network’s linear television channels.

The reigning gold medallists began their campaign with a 99-38 win over Tonga and a 66-47 victory over England, dominant results that amounted to a combined 80-goal margin. Seven broadcast swimming heats while the netball matches were live on 7Plus. After the swimming concluded and Australia had beaten England, the match was shown on delay on Seven’s main channel.

Goalkeeper Courtney Bruce said she had not known the games were unavailable live on television. “That’s obviously disappointing, obviously we want to be on TV and have every fan able to watch,” Bruce said. “It is disappointing, we obviously want netball to be highlighted and want the rest of the sports here at the Commonwealth Games and for Australia to be highlighted too.”

Games debutant Jamie-Lee Price said she hoped supporters would continue to voice their concerns. “We want to be on TV, we want eyes on our sport and if we can get that that’s amazing,” she said. The England fixture matched the last two Commonwealth Games gold medallists.

A Channel Seven spokesperson said multiple events were being held at the same time and that the broadcaster was providing coverage across Seven and 7Plus Sport, including 15 live channels on 7Plus Sport. The Diamonds’ next match is against Malawi in two days’ time.
