According to Al Jazeera, Israeli forces killed a man with a disability during a raid in Syria’s southern Deraa governorate, citing Syria’s state news agency SANA. The civilian was shot dead early on Thursday in Jamla, a village in Daraa’s western countryside, SANA said.

SANA reported that Israeli forces had deployed snipers on rooftops in the village. It said the victim’s body was taken to Deraa National Hospital. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the report.

In a separate raid on Thursday, Israeli forces searched homes in Turnejeh, in the Quneitra countryside, and detained one person, according to SANA. The agency also reported that Israeli forces had destroyed trees in a large field near the village of Saida earlier in the week.

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned what it called an intensification of Israeli incursions in Quneitra and Deraa. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has condemned Israel’s “aggressions”, saying they “undermine peace and security”.

Since Bashar al-Assad was removed in December 2024, the Israeli army has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria and routinely moved forces into Syrian territory. Israeli officials have repeatedly said they intend to keep troops in what they call a “security zone” in southern Syria. Syria and Israel have opened negotiations on a security agreement, though the talks have largely stalled since the outbreak of the US-Israel war on Iran in February.
