According to ABC News, Teddy, a three-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, survived a crocodile attack while playing in shallow water at Lee Point beach in Darwin on Tuesday.

Teddy’s owner, Saphirah Gilboy, said she saw the crocodile grab the dog and throw him back into the water. She went straight in after him and was assisted by a passer-by who was a vet nurse. Teddy spent the night at the vet.

Ms Gilboy said Teddy had bite marks on his face and throat but had begun wagging his tail again. She said the attack happened less than two metres from the sand, where there were babies, children and other dogs in the water.

NT Parks and Wildlife director of wildlife operations Sam Hyson said the crocodile was about two metres long. He said Darwin Harbour had an active crocodile management program, but saltwater crocodiles moved in and out of the region and were often seen on city beaches.

Mr Hyson said no Top End waterway should be considered safe. He urged people to remain croc-wise and to keep themselves, children and pets at least five metres from the water’s edge.
