A roadworker has died after being hit by a car overnight on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway at Clifton Hill.
Emergency services were called to the inner city crash near Hoddle Street about 12.15am on Wednesday after the man was struck by a Toyota sedan.
He was taken to hospital where he later died.
Police said the 27-year-old driver was arrested and is assisting with inquiries.
The Eastern Freeway is expected to be closed for some time as investigators examine the scene.
