According to BBC News, a drone attack by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 41 people in the Blue Nile region near the Ethiopian border. A rights group said the strike targeted a camp for displaced people in the Abu Shandi area on Friday.

Emergency Lawyers reported the death toll from the attack. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs said it was “appalled by horrifying reports” and said initial information suggested that most casualties were women and children.

Ocha said the area reportedly struck had been under sustained attack in recent weeks. It said the violence had displaced thousands of civilians and exposed many more people to grave harm.

Sudan’s army and paramilitary forces, including the RSF, have been locked in a power struggle since 2023. The conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced more than 14 million from their homes, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

The army controls much of Sudan’s central and eastern regions, while the RSF is headquartered in the western region of Darfur and also controls areas in the south. Both sides have been accused of using drone attacks.
