According to BBC News, Cricket Ireland has appointed former international Ed Joyce as its new high performance batting coach. His role will focus on the men’s senior squad and the male talent pathway.

Joyce played 151 times for Ireland, scoring 5,552 runs at an average of 40.82. His record included 10 centuries and 29 half-centuries. He also made 19 appearances for England.

After retiring as a player in 2018, Joyce became Ireland women’s head coach in 2019. He held the post for six years before stepping down last year.

“The head coach role with Ireland women was a great experience and I enjoyed the day-to-day aspect of working with players on developing and improving their techniques and mindset,” Joyce said.

He said that, despite the growing importance of the power game, sound technique and a positive mindset remain crucial for batters. Joyce added that Ireland’s men have made clear progress through work behind the scenes, and said his aim was to help the batting group find greater consistency.
