According to BBC News, Egypt’s cabinet has confirmed that a drone attack caused a fire on Wednesday involving two ships at the Mediterranean port of Damietta, a key liquefied natural gas hub. The cabinet said no party had claimed responsibility and that authorities were continuing to investigate the incident and take measures to preserve Egypt’s interests and national security.

The drone reportedly struck the US-owned floating storage and regasification vessel Energos Winter, starting a blaze that spread to the Greek-owned LNG tanker GasLog Salem. Verified social-media videos showed black smoke rising from the port while tugboats sprayed the ships with water.

Egyptian authorities said the fires were extinguished, no casualties were reported and the port was operating at full capacity on Thursday. Ship-tracking data showed that Energos Winter and GasLog Salem left Damietta and moved offshore after the incident.

It remains unclear where the drone was launched or who was responsible. US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had been briefed on the incident and implied that Iran or its proxies were responsible. Egypt, a US ally, has not so far been directly attacked by Iran.
