According to Allafrica, Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has raised $1.45 million in a Pre-Series A funding round to expand production of molecular diagnostic tests and strengthen its presence in Africa and other underserved markets.
Anara Impact Capital led the round, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures and other investors. The financing follows a $500,000 investment from the Global Innovation Fund in April and is intended to support increased manufacturing capacity, regional expansion and new diagnostic products.
Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Cairo-based Reme-D develops molecular tests for tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and human papillomavirus, or HPV. Its products are designed to stay stable at higher temperatures, reducing the need for cold-chain storage and supporting distribution in remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.
Reme-D has developed and commercialized 30 diagnostic products and supplied more than 550,000 tests in Egypt, Kenya and Sudan since its launch. The company also recently equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization’s Egypt office for monitoring vector-borne diseases.
The startup plans to move into a 1,500-square-meter manufacturing facility, a move expected to increase its production capacity tenfold. It also plans to expand into diagnostics for genetic diseases and cancer, as it seeks to help reduce reliance on imported diagnostic equipment and laboratory consumables.
