Arabic version: عودة ثمانية أطفال إلى غزة بعد عامين من الانفصال
Eight Palestinian toddlers have returned to Gaza after being evacuated for medical treatment in Egypt, marking a poignant reunion for families separated during the ongoing conflict. The children arrived at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on March 30, 2026, more than two years after being taken from al-Shifa Hospital during Israel’s assault in November 2023.
According to Al Jazeera, the reunion took place in Rafah, where crowds gathered to celebrate the return of the toddlers, who were among at least 25 premature babies evacuated during the turmoil. The Palestine Red Crescent Society facilitated the return, ensuring the toddlers were accompanied by relatives and medical staff.
Families have endured immense distress throughout the conflict, with many parents left uncertain about the fate of their children for weeks. Samer Lulu, father of Kinda Lulu, expressed mixed emotions, stating, “Our feelings are indescribable. This is the most important moment in our lives, especially since she is my first daughter… but our feelings are mixed with pain because of the reality we live in – a difficult reality, a reality with an uncertain future.”
The toddlers were initially moved from al-Shifa to southern Gaza before being taken to Egypt for crucial medical care. Inside Gaza, hospitals faced severe shortages of essential supplies due to the ongoing siege. Medical professionals reported dire conditions, complicating efforts to save the infants.
Despite a proclaimed ceasefire since October 2025, violence has persisted, with recent reports indicating continued Israeli attacks resulting in injuries and fatalities among Palestinians. The situation remains precarious as families hope for a safer future for their children.
