According to ABC News, another Australian who had been unaccounted for after devastating floods in Nepal and Tibet has been found safe. The ABC understands the person was not in the disaster zone. The person is the eighth Australian found since the floods, while 35 Australians remain unaccounted for.

Thirty-four of the Australians still missing were on the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, while one was not part of the tour. Most went missing near the Gyirong border crossing north of Kathmandu, or in nearby areas that remain inaccessible after the disaster. Many had been travelling on spiritual pilgrimages to Mount Kailash in south-western Tibet, which Hindus consider sacred.

In Nepal, rescue teams continue to focus on hydropower tunnel projects where about 900 people are missing. Nepal’s army said 121 people could be trapped inside the tunnel network, while the others had been working elsewhere on the sites. Disaster authority chief Dharma Raj Upreti said teams were concentrating on the Chilime hydroelectric project, where authorities believe people may be trapped.

Teams are also working at the interconnected tunnels of the Upper Trishuli 3A and 3B projects, where oxygen has been supplied through pipes and equipment sent to build a passage to trapped workers. Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah said rescue operations would not stop. At least 1,399 people have been killed and more than 5,400 remain missing in Nepal and Tibet. Chinese state media reported that none of the bodies recovered in Tibet were foreign nationals.
