On the evening of Friday, 25 April 2025, a shocking act of violence unfolded in Zgharta, North Lebanon, when two men forcibly entered a private residence and launched a brutal assault on a 74-year-old man.

According to an official statement released by the family, Mohsen Sarkis Mouawad and his brother, Nidal Sarkis Mouawad, stormed the home of Badaoui Gerges Finianos and savagely beat and kicked him in an unprovoked attack. The victim, an elderly man battling cancer, was left in critical condition and was urgently transported to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The incident has sparked public outrage, particularly given that the assailants were reportedly well aware of Finianos’s medical condition. Described by the family as a “deliberate and barbaric attempt to kill,” the attack has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

Wendy Finianos, daughter of the victim and Chair of the Liberal Friends of Lebanon, publicly decried the attack and issued an urgent appeal to Lebanese authorities. In her statement, she called on President Joseph Aoun to intervene immediately, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure they face the full force of the law.

“This is a crime against an elderly and ill man in his own home. I urge the state to act swiftly and decisively,” Finianos declared.

The incident is being viewed not only as a violent crime but also as a test of the Lebanese state’s commitment to protecting its vulnerable citizens and ensuring justice prevails. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the ongoing investigation.

This case remains under intense public scrutiny as many await legal action against the attackers.
