Arabic version: إنجلترا تهزم أيرلندا رغم إصابة القائدة سيفر-برونت
England secured a four-wicket victory over Ireland in the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Southampton, but the match was marred by a significant injury concern for captain Nat Sciver-Brunt. Sciver-Brunt, who was returning from a previous calf injury, retired hurt while batting at 48, leaving the field due to tightness in her left calf.
According to BBC News, England chased down Ireland’s total of 118 runs with 15 balls to spare, but the loss of their captain raised alarms about her fitness ahead of their next match. Sciver-Brunt had formed a solid partnership of 64 runs with Heather Knight before her abrupt departure.
Ireland’s innings saw contributions from Prendergast and Little, both scoring 26 runs, but they ultimately finished at 118-9. England’s bowling attack was led by Sophie Ecclestone, who took three wickets, while Dani Gibson and Charlie Dean each claimed two.
With this win, England has now recorded two victories in their opening matches of the tournament. They will face Scotland next at Headingley, while Ireland, having lost both of their matches, will play against winless New Zealand on Friday.
