Nathan Hagarty, the Member for Leppington, has launched a petition demanding action from Liverpool City Council on their long-promised upgrade to Edmondson Avenue in Austral.

Edmondson Avenue is a critical north-south arterial road for the region. Liverpool Council committed to upgrading Edmondson Avenue from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane local road, which includes new intersections to improve traffic flow and road safety.

While the State Government has been hard at work transforming Fifteenth Avenue, the upgrade of Edmondson Avenue by Liverpool City Council lingers. Council was allocated $59 million by the previous Government in 2021 to complete the project by June 2024, but not a single sod has been turned.

With the safety and wellbeing of residents are at risk due to the ongoing delays, Nathan Hagarty MP has initiated a petition to demand immediate action from Liverpool City Council.

With hundreds of signatures already collected, Mr Hagarty has urged the community to sign and share the petition at nathanhagarty.com.au/edmondson to ensure the upgrade of Edmondson Avenue begins as soon as possible.

Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty said:

“The lack of progress is unacceptable and I encourage everyone to sign and share this important petition. Council has been sitting on tens of millions of dollars to complete this upgrade but not a single sod has been turned.

“Community safety can no longer be put at risk by administrative chaos and bureaucratic delays.

“Too many accidents have occurred, particularly near Eighth and Tenth avenues, areas close to local schools and retirement villages.

“The people of Austral have waited long enough. It’s time for Liverpool City Council to prioritise our safety and get on with the upgrade of Edmondson Avenue.”
