According to Allafrica, Ethiopia has declared an Egyptian diplomatic staff member persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 48 hours. The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally notified the Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa of the decision, which concerns Ahmed Moharam Ahmed Soliman.
In a statement, the ministry said Soliman, a member of Egypt’s diplomatic staff, had been declared persona non grata. It said the embassy’s staff member was expected to depart Ethiopia within 48 hours from the date of the notification.
The ministry said the decision was made in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which it described as the international framework governing diplomatic relations between states. The notification stated that the diplomat would leave Ethiopia within 48 hours of the date of the communication.
The statement said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia renewed to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa the assurances of its highest consideration.
