Cosmologists and physicists come up empty handed when they attempt to pin down time, questioning its very existence. According to The Guardian, time is often perceived as an unyielding force, dictating our daily lives and activities. However, emerging scientific perspectives suggest that this conventional understanding may be misguided, viewing ‘clock time’ as merely a mathematical construct rather than a physical reality.

The concept of ‘time famine’ has surfaced, where individuals feel increasingly pressed for time despite efforts to be more efficient. Psychologists indicate that this phenomenon leads to a decline in quality of life, as those experiencing time famine are less likely to engage in enjoyable activities, eat healthily, seek necessary medical care, or help each other.

Further complicating our understanding of time is the realization that we lack sensory organs to detect it, and our perception of time can vary dramatically based on our experiences. Some individuals, such as those with specific neurological conditions, may perceive time in fragmented or distorted ways, underscoring the subjective nature of our temporal experiences.

Interestingly, cosmologists do not find a continuous flow of time in the universe; instead, they suggest that time is shaped by our interactions with the world. This perspective aligns with certain indigenous views, such as those of the Aymara people, who perceive the future as hidden behind them. By shifting focus from rigid clock time to a more fluid understanding of ‘lived time,’ individuals may find greater fulfillment and connection in their daily lives.
