An explosion damaged a Jewish school in Amsterdam early on Saturday, in what the city’s mayor described as “a deliberate attack against the Jewish community.” The explosion at the school in an upscale residential neighbourhood on the south side of Amsterdam only caused limited damage, with no reported injuries.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, responded swiftly to the scene. Despite the explosion’s impact, the lack of injuries has been a relief for the community. Halsema condemned the attack, stating, “This is a cowardly act of aggression against the Jewish community.”

The incident follows an overnight arson attack at a synagogue in Rotterdam on Friday, prompting heightened security measures at synagogues and Jewish institutions across Amsterdam. The mayor emphasized that Jewish people in the city are increasingly facing antisemitism, calling the situation “unacceptable.”

Concerns over potential threats to Jewish communities have escalated globally, particularly following recent US and Israeli military actions against Iran and its subsequent responses. According to The Guardian, the community remains vigilant in the face of rising antisemitism and violence.
