Arabic version: عائلة تطالب السائق في قضية الضرب والفرار لإيثان هنري
The family of Eathan Henry, an 18-year-old man injured in a hit-and-run incident, is urging the driver responsible to come forward. According to ABC News, Henry was struck by a vehicle while walking along the Kennedy Highway after leaving the Mount Garnet Rodeo in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Henry, a Jirrbal man and passionate rugby league player, was left with critical injuries and remains in stable condition at Cairns Hospital. Family friend Kara Neugent expressed hope that the driver would take responsibility for their actions, stating, “You can’t just run over somebody’s child and leave them there to die.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police examining video footage from the rodeo and seeking information from potential witnesses. Detective Acting Inspector Anthony Law emphasized the importance of identifying the vehicle and anyone involved, noting that it would be very hard to have collided with those two people and not have been aware that you struck something.
Henry’s friend, who was with him at the time, sustained minor injuries and managed to flag down help. The community has rallied around Henry, providing overwhelming support as he faces a long recovery ahead. Neugent highlighted his dedication to Jirrbal culture and his desire to give back to his community through storytelling.
