According to ABC News, Melbourne woman Sally Contarino has been missing in Las Vegas for 120 days after she was due to return to Australia from a solo holiday on June 20. The 26-year-old, who has functional neurological disorder, has not been seen or heard from since that date.
Her family has criticised the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s investigation, saying communication problems and false leads have compounded their distress. Her sister Amy said an initial large-scale search, involving sniffer dogs and drones, had later been scaled back as leads dried up. Police have not ruled out any possible outcome, including foul play.
Las Vegas police now believe Contarino was last seen shortly after 1pm on June 20 near West Skye Canyon Drive on the city’s north-western edge. Amy said the family had previously been told her last known location was near Fletcher’s Canyon in Mt Charleston after dogs tracked her scent there, but later learned that was not the case.
Amy said investigators had been unable to access data from her sister’s phone because Contarino was travelling with an e-SIM and police did not have permission to obtain her Australian phone records. The family is raising money to travel to the United States and continue searching themselves. The LVMPD did not provide ABC News with an update when contacted, while Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing the family ongoing support.
