The scent of fresh popcorn is set to fill the air across Canterbury-Bankstown with one of its most loved events, Movies Under the Stars, returning for the fourth year in a row.
Movie lovers and star gazers alike are being called on to gather their family and friends for a free month long movie marathon sure to change their weekend status from having “nothing on” to being “booked and busy”.
From Saturday 5 October to 2 November, film fanatics can expect to be thrilled by epic monster battles, unravel the secrets of the wizarding world, giggle at hilarious Minions, participate in animal adventures, or sing-a-long with their favourite Aussie artists.
Movie screenings include:
- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – Saturday 5 October at Gough Whitlam Park, Earlwood;
- Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – Saturday 12 October at Gazzard Park, Yagoona;
- Minions: The Rise of Gru – Saturday 19 October at Marco Reserve, Panania;
- Dolittie – Saturday 26 October at Rotary Park, Riverwood; and
- The Sapphires – Saturday 2 November at Bankstown City Gardens, Bankstown.
For the first time ever, Council has broadened the event to expand over all five wards of the City to ensure everyone has an opportunity to attend a screening near them.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said Movies Under the Stars is the perfect way to keep the kids entertained this spring without hurting the family budget.
“Gone are the days where theatre tickets were just $12 and with the cost of living continuing to rise, it can be daunting when our kids ask us to go to the movies with friends” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“With free movie screenings across all five wards of our City, we’ve done the planning for you and organised a month worth of fun and affordable family weekends.”
Screening times begin at 7.30pm but eager viewers can join in the fun from 5pm for free activities, including giant garden games, an inflatable obstacle course and a dj to keep the good times rolling.
Food trucks will also be available at every screening to satisfy any last-minute cravings.
