Arabic version: حادث حافلة مميت في جزر الكناري يصيب 27 سائحًا بريطانيًا
According to BBC News,
A man has died and 27 others have been injured after a bus carrying British tourists crashed into a ravine in La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, local emergency services have said. The group were travelling to the San Sebastián de La Gomera dock where they were due to travel by ferry to Tenerife, Spanish news outlet El Mundo reported.
The bus was travelling on the GM-2 road before crashing into the ravine. It fell from a height of around 10m, according to El Mundo. It is a mountainous road with sharp turns, and an image shared by the emergency services appears to show it crashing near a hairpin bend.
Emergency services deployed a medical helicopter and five ambulances to the scene. Most of the injured people have been taken to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, on the east of the island, while two seriously injured people have been helicoptered to hospitals in neighbouring Tenerife. Three of the injured are currently in serious condition.
Héctor Cabrera, head of emergency operations in La Gomera, stated that the bus passengers were staying at a resort on the island. The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his support for the victims and their families following this tragic incident.
La Gomera is the second smallest of Spain’s Canary Islands – it’s about 50 minutes by ferry from Tenerife, the largest. It is known as a popular destination for hikers, with its volcanic mountains criss-crossed with trails. The Canary Islands are a popular holiday destination for Brits – around 3.83m visited in 2025, with around 70,000 heading to La Gomera, according to the Canary Islands Tourism Observatory.
