According to ABC News, fire engulfed Falvey’s Sundowner Saloon on the Warrego Highway at Haigslea, west of Ipswich, leaving the landmark bright pink pub with significant damage and a partially collapsed roof.

The fire broke out at 8.30am at the pub on the main highway between Brisbane and Toowoomba. Queensland Fire Department Acting Inspector Dan Skellern said crews arrived to thick black smoke and acted to confirm all occupants had been accounted for.

Six fire vehicles and two specialist vehicles attended the incident. Acting Inspector Skellern said internal items including carpets and poker machines added to the fire load, requiring significant resources to combat the blaze. Firefighters had the fire under control before 11am.

A staff member who was at the site when the fire began was assessed for smoke inhalation after attempting to fight it before emergency crews arrived. The fire was contained to the pub and did not spread to the adjoining bottle shop.

A nearby petrol station was evacuated as a precaution when toxic smoke travelled towards the site. Its fuel supplies were isolated to remove potential risk. The cause of the fire has not been established.
