According to ABC News, Football Queensland has reversed proposed changes to its 2027 fee structure after member clubs across the state objected to the plan. The governing body said it had listened to its clubs and will retain the existing structure rather than introduce a new Competition Access Fee.

More than 100 clubs wrote to Football Queensland earlier in October in opposition to what they described as an unreasonably dramatic fee hike. The clubs said higher fees would likely make football unaffordable for families. Football Queensland initially disputed the claims and said Queensland had the lowest fees in the country.

Football Queensland said the existing structure would remain for 2027, with modest adjustments to reflect inflation. Player enrolment fees will be $60 for MiniRoos, $80 for junior players and $150 for seniors.

In its statement, Football Queensland said it remained confident in the initially proposed Competition Access Fee model but accepted it represented a significant change for clubs. The board said retaining the existing structure for 2027 was the most sensible way forward after considering feedback and practical implementation challenges.

The governing body said the 2027 fees include adjustments for transaction and technology costs, as well as a modest adjustment. It said that, after more than seven years without an increase to player enrolment fees, the change would help maintain statewide football services and programs while keeping the sport affordable.
