According to ABC News, former Uber driver Muhammad Uzair Ehsan has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for indecently assaulting a female passenger outside her Adelaide home.

Ehsan, 35, of Prospect, was found guilty by Magistrate Roderick Jensen of two counts of indecent assault after a two-day trial in August 2025. The Adelaide Magistrates Court heard the passenger was in an “intoxicated and vulnerable state” when she was subjected to the two acts at the front door of her unit.

Magistrate Jensen said Ehsan had not shown remorse and did not accept the guilty verdict. He said the victim had been forced to undergo a court process she found traumatic after Ehsan contested the charges. In a statement relayed to the court, the victim said she had taken an Uber home so she would not be drinking and driving, and described being “shocked and terrified” by the offending.

The court heard the victim had spent thousands of dollars on counselling, security measures, transport and lost wages. Sentencing had been postponed while an appeal was pending; it was dismissed in June. Ehsan was remanded in custody after sentencing submissions last month.

The sentence carries a non-parole period of eight months, backdated to when Ehsan was taken into custody. He will be eligible for parole in April 2027. Uber previously said Ehsan no longer had access to its platform.
