Arabic version: مقتل أربعة فلسطينيين في هجوم على تل
According to Al Jazeera, four Palestinians were killed in an attack involving Israeli forces and settlers in Tal, southwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said four other Palestinians were injured, three of them critically. Israeli health officials separately reported that one Israeli settler was killed and others were injured in the area.
Local and security sources said Israeli settlers attacked Tal, near the illegal Israeli settlement of Havat Gilad, earlier on Friday. Essam Saifi, a local Fatah leader, told Reuters that about 25 to 30 settlers attacked the eastern area of the town and tried to enter two houses. He said residents confronted them and that the settlers opened fire.
Saifi said the settlers returned about half an hour later and attacked the western part of Tal, striking a child with a weapon. He said the Israeli military then arrived and started shooting alongside the settlers. The Israeli army said it sent troops near Havat Gilad following what it described as an attack on Israelis hiking in the area, and claimed that a Palestinian stole a weapon from local security personnel and fired at settlers.
After the incident, Israeli forces imposed a security cordon around Nablus and Tal. Al Jazeera correspondent Nida Ibrahim said checkpoints leading to Tal were closed. The Palestinian health ministry said the deaths in Tal brought the number of Palestinians killed by Israelis across the West Bank since the start of the year to 86, including 21 shot by settlers. The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned the killings, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would convene an emergency meeting after the Israeli death near Tal.
