The funeral procession for Iran’s former supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, commenced in Tehran on July 6, 2026, as reported by state media. Crowds have gathered in Revolution Square to pay their respects, with the event expected to last for 10 to 12 hours.
According to Middle East Eye, the procession will begin at the Grand Mosalla of Tehran. Following the ceremony in the capital, Khamenei’s body is set to be transported through Qom on Tuesday, then to Iraq on Wednesday, before returning to Mashhad for burial on Thursday.
Mourners have been seen holding signs depicting U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reflecting the political sentiments surrounding Khamenei’s leadership. The atmosphere in Tehran remains somber as thousands gather to honor the late leader.
