According to Al Jazeera, humanitarian official Athena Rayburn says conditions for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip have become “untenable and catastrophic”, even as the United States-backed Board of Peace touts progress.

Rayburn, executive director of the Association of International Development Agencies, discussed daily life for Palestinians with host Steve Clemons in an episode of Al Jazeera’s The Bottom Line published on September 7, 2026.

In Gaza, more than two million Palestinians have been corralled into about 104 square kilometres, or 40 square miles, the report said. Israeli forces consistently bomb the area, it said.

Clean water, food, electricity, medicine and durable shelter are difficult to obtain, according to the report. It said Israel has imposed severe restrictions on humanitarian aid and humanitarian groups.

Rayburn examined Israeli tactics that she said are making life untenable for millions of Palestinians. Her assessment contrasted with the Board of Peace’s claims of progress while conditions on the ground worsen.
