The Gaza Genocide Tapestry, an art project co-curated by journalist Jehan Alfarra, will be displayed at this year’s Venice Biennale. This initiative aims to document the ongoing devastation in Gaza through the intricate work of Palestinian women, who express their stories via needle and thread.

According to Al Jazeera, the tapestry consists of 100 embroidered panels, each composed of 55,000 stitches. These pieces serve as a testament to the suffering experienced by Palestinians, capturing poignant moments such as a journalist grieving over his child and children facing scarcity in soup kitchens.

The project is a continuation of the Palestine History Tapestry Project, which began in 2011. It has evolved to include contributions from women in Gaza, Lebanon, and Jordan, despite challenges such as displacement and limited access to materials. The tapestry emphasizes the importance of preserving Palestinian heritage while also serving as a powerful narrative tool.

This collective effort not only highlights individual stories but also aims to restore dignity and a sense of community among Palestinian women embroiderers. The tapestry represents a visual record of their experiences and resilience, merging art with a profound political statement about the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
