According to ABC News, Geelong ended Melbourne’s unbeaten MCG record for the season with a 20-point victory, while Fremantle defeated West Coast by 70 points in the western derby on Friday night.

The Cats won 18.9 (117) to 14.13 (97) after a seven-goal second quarter established a 20-point half-time lead. Melbourne entered the match with a 9-0 record at the MCG, but Geelong responded to the Demons’ challenges through an end-to-end final term to secure a result that keeps the club in contention for a top-six finish.

With Jeremy Cameron absent through injury, Shannon Neale kicked four first-half goals and finished with five. Recalled forward Ollie Henry kicked four after being promoted when key defender Sam De Koning was withdrawn because of illness an hour before the match. West Coast midfielder Harley Reid had 30 disposals and 12 clearances, while Tim Kelly gathered 31 disposals and 603 metres gained. Fremantle’s fifth consecutive derby victory, and 10th in the past 11 meetings, left the Dockers at 17-2. They will finish the round at least three wins clear on top of the table with four rounds remaining.
